***First off, I hope I put this in the right forum***

I've been observing some games lately, and I've come across a question:

Why do Boon-Prots use The Soulstone while Boon-Protting? Is the +1 Divine Favor (20% chance while using skills) actually worth it? Would I be better off using Garbok's Set for Energy Drain, Inspired Hex, and (sometimes) Drain Enchantment? Or should I do something like Garbok's Cane and The Soulstone?

Eh, a lot of boon prots don't use the soulstone. I usually see these:

Divine Symbol [Generic extra focus]
Energy +12 (req9 DF)
+5 armor when enchanted
+45 health when enchanted

Garbok's Chalice [Inspiration users]
Energy +12 (req9 Insp)
+1 Inspiration (20% chance on skill usage)
Improves Inspiration spell recharge (20% chance)

Scroll [Negative energy set]
Energy +6 (req. 5 Earth)
Armor +5
Health +25
Energy -5

Gordac's Hook Blood [those brave OoB users]
Energy +12 (req9 blood)
+1 Blood Magic (20% chance on skill use)
Improves Blood spell recharge (20% chance)

And the +15/-1 gear.

The choice of weapon + offhand is pretty build-dependent, though I think the Inspiration/Blood specific ones do well. You don't actually have to use those until you are casting your energy management spells.

A lot of boon-prots that don't use CoP (in GvG, for example) will bring the Soulstone along as well as an armor switch to try and get the level 17 Divine Boon on before the match. Once that happens, they'll switch back to either an Inspiration or Blood set, or a +5/+45 focus.

Yes exactly. Although I don't aim for level 17 myself. I find you need some decent prot to make a spell like guardian half useful. You bring a Divine hat with a Superior Divine rune in it to precast with the Soulstone at the beginning. Then I personally use a prot hat with minor prot.

+3 on your divine boon can make a difference especially if you have 2 boon prots.

Then you switch to either 20/20 focus and 20% recharge rod if you are OoB/Edrain or your choice of a set if you use MoR.

hm...intersting, it would help just a little and could change the outcome of the game, though the chance of divine boon simply getting removed with all of those energy surge mesmers is pretty high. I know i remove boon a lot when facing boon/prots so they cant CoP my shame or to try and get them to diversion their divine boon, or just if there isnt anything else to remove.

Seef II, would you happen to know where that scroll is from? And is that the maximum -energy focus there is?

That scroll is one out of 3 possible quest rewards from the Cities of Ascalon quest: The -50 HP Grim Cesta is guaranteed, but the whether you get the -20 HP Scroll or the -nrg scroll is random.

It's the maximum -energy scroll out there - matches all the pre-searing ones. All -energy focii post-searing are net +1.

I myself use these sets:
20/20 prot staff with +60hp
20 recharge and 20/20 blood set (collector)
Wroth's Holy Rod and The Soulstone
Energy - 5 Sword and candy shield.

And sup divine in head slot all the time. Only if i face spike teams or get dp'd then i chance to minor divine.

I came across a Soulstone and tried to get +1 to Divine Favor for Divine Boon...it doesn't work. All I ever get is +51 health (16 Divine Favor), never anything higher while casting skills. I can spam skills for quite some times and I don't seem to ever get that +1 (20% chance).

You have to recast (and dismiss) Divine Boon until you get +1 Divine Favor on the Divine Boon cast.

16 divine favor boon nets you +73 health on your monk spells. 17 divine favor boon nets you +76 health on your monk spells. You do not get 17 divine favor innate bonus 20% of the time when casting your protection spells -- I wish this was the case though. As it stands, the soulstone is inferior to the +45 health; +5 armor while enchanted divine symbol out of Forge. Only use the soulstone has is before battle to try and get +17 divine boon.

+1 divine favor only affects -- divine boon, divine healing, aura of faith, blessed aura (I used to use a 17 DF blessed aura for 380 HP solo farming with my monk), divine intervention, divine spirit, spellbreaker, watchful spirit, and peace 'n harmony

Unless you desire to have every green item for your monk (i.e. you're a collector) or you just have so much money that you don't know what to do with it, then I would advise against it. If your goal is to outfit your PvE for competitive reasons, then go with the Forge divine symbol instead of the Soulstone.

+3 on your boon, providing it doesn't get removed from soulstone isin't bad at all.

Not a huge difference per se, but every 100 spells you'll heal for 300 more points(again assuming it doesn't get removed). Obviously it's a very small benefit, but it's not like during GvG/HA matches your energy wont fully regen before anything actualy happens anyway. Most times in TA you have enough time for it to regen as well.

+45hp +5 armor divine is better against spikes ect, but I hope no one was actualy considering using soulstone for that purpose ;/ Like it's been said, +45hp +5ar divine can be crafted at drocks.

The few boon prots that use soulstone keep using boon at the beginning of battle until they get the +1 on their boon. Basically you're guaranteeing yourself the +1 with a spammable enchantment.
